Ticking
Ten minutes.Ten minutes remaining to tell the one man she had ever loved that, yes - she actually did love him, she wasn't just flirting. She wasn't just a silly blonde tart.
She wasn't just another woman.
Of course, thoughts like that made it seem as if there WERE other women. There never had been. Not in all the years (Days? Months? Who knew. It felt like years at least.) they had been together.
Five minutes.
And all she could do was stand next to him and hold his hand. Cling to his arm like the little lost child she was.
He looked down at her, his soft brown eyes filled with apologies, and she simply shook her head.
One minute.
“Doctor…” she said, her eyes sliding sideways to the man who stood beside her. The man who always stood beside her.
“Yes Rose?” he replied quite calmly, once again looking down at her. She looked away though, for some reason unable to look him in the eye.
“I wanna tell you something…”
“You may wish to hurry Rose.”
She bit back the retort that formed almost automatically and inspected the ground between her feet most carefully. Her face blushed up like a schoolgirl as she blurted her words out.
“Iloveyou.”
His face broke into a beaming smile and Rose swore she could actually feel the warmth.
“I know. Wanna get out of this dump? Its gonna blow in a couple of minutes.” The TARDIS began to materialise behind them, and Rose could only sputter as he dragged her in to his arms, in to the TARDIS and in to safety.
It took Rose a good few minutes before she stopped sputtering. “And you didn’t do that earlier, WHY?”
“Because you needed it.”
“Oh, and er, love you too.”
Back?
